A shoemaker and his wife are facing a cold, bleak winter -- that is, until a pair of elves show up who've been sent to do "a good deed for a good human." Based on the classic Brothers Grimm fairy tale, this charming musical adaptation from Sidekick Theatre puts a humorous spin on the popular classic, yet keeps the themes of kindness and generosity. Interact Theater's ensemble ignites the stage this fall with "What Fools These Mortals Be". Master playwright and storyteller Kevin Kling heads up the cast -- as the Bard himself -- for an unforgettable evening of theater, humor, music and over-the-top foolishness accompanied by original music and stage direction by Ivey Award-winning composer Aaron Gabriel. It's 1589, and Queen Elizabeth has heard rumors of "strange sisters" in the dark woods and a potential plan by her courtly fools to commit royal murder. This convinces her to round up and execute all the fools in the land, who promptly leave for the New World in order to save their own skin. Once there, they realize the only way to return home and regain the Queen's favor is to create the single greatest play ever written, with a little help from a new playwright named William ... something-or-other. A mash-up of Shakespeare's most iconic scenes, "What Fools These Mortals Be" is performed with Interact Theater's trademark style of humor and heart. Commemorate the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death with this production at The Lab Theater in Minneapolis. [less-]
